Normally, editing has different levels. When you work with me, you can choose from one or more of the following editing levels.
Copy Editing
Usually, this is the final step to prepare your work for publishing. I’ll focus on basic grammar, spelling, and punctuation, based on stylebook of your choice. I have experience in AP, APA, and Chicago styles. If you prefer another stylebook, feel free to send me your style guide.
Line Editing
I recommend doing this after you’ve written at least a first draft, but before final copyediting. My attention will be on sentences and paragraphs for flow, tone, clarity, and meaning, while maintaining your natural writing voice. I might catch a little grammar and spelling along the way. But I still recommend a final copyedit before publishing, whether by me or someone else.
Substantive Editing
A bigger-picture editing, this can be done at any point in the writing process to clarify main ideas, organize content, rewrite sections for readability, check for consistency in headings, and consult about any major problems of clarity or meaning.
